It is the simple and small things that are significant.
Xavier came into our bedroom just a minute ago. (Every night he comes in and asks to sleep with us)so I expected the same.
Instead he comes in asking me to sing him a song before he goes to sleep.
For his whole life, I have had a playlist of songs to sing to them, each night. And I would usually sing the whole 9-12 songs, just to give them that "special time" with mama each night.
Lately I have not spent the time to sit next to their bed and sing to them.
He came in and asked me, and I told him
"I will sing One song to you, right here, and then you need to promise me that you will go to sleep." He said okay.
I asked him what song he wanted me to sing.
(He has about 12 songs to choose from)
He instantly said "The Itsy Bitsy Spider" 🕷️
This was the shortest song I have ever sung to him. I was very surprised he didn't say any other song!!
🎶
So I made sure that's the song he really wanted and then I sang it. He had the biggest smile on his handsome face, and it grew as daddy joined in to sing the last half. He gave us kisses and went to bed.
It's the small and simple things. It isn't hard to fill a child's heart with love and Joy.
Always remember to take time for those sweet ones, even if you are struggling to keep yourself going emotionally. They may seem insignificant to you, but to them, it's the whole world stopping for the memory.
